“hpqscnvw has stopped working”

The Story

After a frustrating morning, it appears that the HP Officejet Solution Center and my Wacom Tablet are incompatible within Microsoft Vista. It appears that this is a problem caused by HP.

The short version of the story is this:

• Wacom knows about the problem and has notified HP
• HP knows about the problem and isn’t doing anything
• UPDATE: HP has issued a patch to resolve this problem! Here is the patch

The Work-Around (no longer necessary, but still a nice example of an AutoIt script)

The work-around, is to stop the Tablet PC Input Service when you want to do any scanning.

I’ve created an AutoIt script to quickly turn this service on or off. You can place the .EXE on your desktop and click it to turn the service on or off.
